This Turkish restaurant is “fluff less”, meaning it doesn’t focus on fancy decorations, but delivers delicious food and great service. The DJ upon entering the restaurant was a special touch that we often don’t see at many restaurants especially during the day. The music was a bit too loud but it didn’t stop us from enjoying the food. Our waitress was very kind and attentive. The sauces and selection of spices accompanied by the skewers is such a great idea. The lentil soup was perhaps the lentil soup we’d ever had.
We had one of the specials (a spiced watermelon salad), the roasted cauliflower, and the beef dumplings. The watermelon salad was a work of art, with tomato, mint, and spices, not your typical watermelon salad. The roasted cauliflower was SO SOFT I couldn't believe it. The beef dumplings were something I haven't had before, we tried them based on the waiter's recommendation, they were yummy as well but I don't have a frame of reference for them.
We were here for an early dinner so it was a bit quiet. The decor was very pretty and our waiter was great! I definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.
September 2023:
Stopped by for brunch and ordered the shakshuka. The dish was delicious. Eggplant and red peppers were blended with tomato and two eggs 😋. The dish came with some warm pita pieces that perfectly soaked up the sauce.
Service was very friendly and I would definitely come back again for more delicious food. Next time, I would try the eggplant toast for brunch because that sounded good.
I must say, Troya is THE BEST Mediterranean in the city! We’ve tried a lot of the high end ones - but this one meets the fine balance between affordability and delicious taste.
We had Warm Hummus with Lamb (could use more sauce), Red Lentil soup (DO add lemon in it), Lamb Shoulder - which was perfectly cooked, beautifully crisp and yummy Falafel, velvety soft Chicken skewers, and their Turkish spiced Fries - ah, to die for!! And of course, not miss their crisp dessert - Kunefe!! 🤤
The servers were very courteous and food was served in a timely fashion. The vibe was mellow as Mediterranean should be, and well decorated interiors as well!
The ‘Egg’plant toast was the best breakfast I had in during 3 months in the US. Presentation says a lot, but if you could taste time, it was the eggplant and the muhammara in this meal. The slice of bread was serious (but still light and crunchy) as were the eggs and avocado. All served with a proper knife making this trouble free to eat (so often not the case).
Good ambience, nothing but pleasantry from the staff. Well priced. If they did brunch everyday I’d have gone right back.
Everything I tried was good. They had the watermelon salad special and from someone whos not a salad person, I couldnt stop putting it in my hole…pie hole. Turkish red wine recommended by the servers was great. Dont fill up on the apps, very tempting to, but DONT. Leave room for dessert also. Chocolate lava cake…yummers
Hummus and cauliflowers are at another level. We ordered a second plate of cauliflowers. Definitely going back.
The service was exceptionally good: quick, attentive, accommodating, genteel. We were just trying to get out of the rain and warm up, so only ordered hot drinks and snacks (tea, coffee, the hummus & lamb appetizer) but it was so good, we stuck around and ordered dessert! I’ll go back for a full meal, next time I’m in the area.
